Hi anon! :D Okay so, from what i understand, the “Shadow Self” thingy is another word for doppleganger. Silas can’t be killed, so to maintain the balance, there had to be a version of Silas that could be killed, which is why Silas has a doppleganger version of himself aka shadow self who is Stefan (and Stefan can be killed). This is all so that the balance of nature can be maintained :D
